Managing Diversity

Managing Diversity has been developed as a two day course and designed as a follow up to Welcoming Diversity, though a one day course is also available.

The course ensures that Managers understand best practice and the expectations on them (organisational and legal) when managing diverse teams.

The course meets the above aims by using the organisations own policies and procedures and the trainers experience and expertise:
  • to enhance Managers knowledge and understanding of equality and diversity
  • to apply the above knowledge to improve management techniques, including supervision
  • in testing real situations to practice what has been learned

Actors are generally used for the role play on this course (two day) to improve the learning experience.

Welcoming Diversity

This course has been designed to make sure that your staff have all of the basic skills and knowledge needed to understand and deal with diversity both with colleagues and clients. This is a well established and popular course, which engages all levels of any organisation.

This one day course includes relevant definitions, the legislation, language, understanding institutional discrimination and relevant case studies. Throughout the course we refer to your policy and practice guidance (where this is in place).

Unconscious Bias

This one day or half day course allows participants to consider and recognise their own unconscious bias and have a greater awareness of what is going on around them. The course defines unconscious bias, investigates why it is inherent in us all and how we can recognise and deal with it at work.

The course takes a practical perspective through everyday examples, as well as considering the psychology behind unconscious bias, it then applies the learning to a work environment.

This course is suitable for anyone who is interested in equality and diversity and is a must for those in a decision making position, particularly if recruiting or managing staff.

Cultural Awareness

This one day course enables staff to recognise culturally based behaviour (in it's widest sense), in themselves and others, to see value in the differences and act appropriately.

The increased awareness it brings aims to improve client and colleague relationships and service provision.

Anti Discriminatory Practice

This two day course gives participants an opportunity to reflect on their work practice and make changes in respect of equality, diversity, prejudice, discrimination and culture.

This course is easily adapted to meet specific organisation requirements. It includes the law in practice and "real" role play with actors.

Monitoring - Collecting monitoring data

Many managers have difficulty explaining to staff how best to collect the information they need from individuals on their equality monitoring forms.

We have a number of short courses to ensure staff understand why monitoring information is so important to your organisation and equip them with the tools to deal confidently with the difficult questions they may be asked.

Managing Diversity Strategically (for Board and Senior Management)

This course is designed to engage Senior Management and Board Members. It deals with the strategic issues of diversity management and includes law updates and a planning tool for the organisation.

Your Board and Senior Management can be up-to-date with what is expected of them with this one day course. This course has often been delivered over two evening sessions or at a weekend.
